Last Updated 25 July 2012, 18:20 IST

Health Minister Aravind Limbavali  was severely pulled up by Speaker K G Bopaiah in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday for not being present in the House when matters pertaining to the minister’s department had been listed on the agenda.

“Where is Aravind Limbavali ? I have been observing that he has been absenting himself even when matters pertaining to his department are being taken up for discussion,” Bopaiah said when he found that Limbavali was not present in the House when two call attention motions related to the health department were raised by the members.

“Does he think he can attend the House at his whims and fancies? Should we wait for him? If he is not able to function, why should he continue ?” Bopaiah said.

For a moment even the Opposition members were stunned by Bopaiah’s outburst. Law Minister Suresh Kumar tried to pacify Bopaiah by stating that Limbavali would be coming to House soon. “Does he not know that he should be present in the House?

Does he not read the agenda ?” Bopaiah asked. Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah was full of praise for Bopaiah. “You have done the right thing. You should be doing it more often”, he said.

On Tuesday, as many as eight questions had lapsed during question hour in the Assembly due to absence of ministers.
