T he city offers ample opportunities to revisit the past. ‘Bengaluru by Foot’, for instance, explores the city like never before.

On August 13, 14 and 15, the group has planned a heritage walk to different parts of the city. On August 13,  the group will head for a trek at Devarayanaurga. On Sunday, the heritage walk will be around Avenue Road. And to make things more exciting, on Independence Day, the group has planned four small walks that cover different parts of Tipu Sultan’s rule. The members are also looking forward to visitors in the city to take part in the walk. ‘Bengaluru by Foot’ is founded by Ameen Ahmed and Mansoor Ali a year ago. The duo wanted to help other Bengalureans and visitors discover the culture, food and heritage through curated walks.

Ali says, “The idea was to  take people on an experience that is unusual from the others. We plan different walks every weekend and anyone who is interested in joining us can come along. We take a minimum of four and a maximum of 25 people on the walk with us.” Ali says, “We have a lot of expats and software engineers from the city and outside who come for our walks. It’s a great experience to go with a group and learn the history of the city.”

And how do they decide on the places? “We do a survey of the place and find out if it is worth visiting. There’s a lot of research that goes into finding the history of the place,” he explains. While Vineeth Chandra is the lead for temple walks, Suresh Jayaram is the one to coordinate the walks in Lalbagh. They also visit different streets in Shivajinagar and explore unique food items.

The team members met on a mutual Facebook group and have been friends since then. They hope to continue their good work and explore the city one step at a time.
