Within four months of presenting the 2012-13 budget, the ruling BJP, on Thursday, tabled a supplementary estimate for Rs 3,670.19 crore to finance ‘unforeseen’ expenditure, in the Legislative Council.

Among the steps that the government wants to take by utilising the additional money are supply of fodder (Rs 32 crore), drinking water supply (Rs 150 cr), employment generation (Rs 42 cr) and for flood-related work (Rs 101 cr).

The government wants to dole out Rs 100 crore to temples and other religious institutions. It will spend Rs two crore for the celebration of 500th year of Zeera-prakat-Samagam of Sri Gurunanak in Bidar. Besides, the government would spend Rs 7.83 lakh for chartered accountants, who verified claims of depositors of  Vinivinc company.

The government has said it will spend Rs 150 crore for purchasing EVMs for the State Election Commission and Rs 10 lakh for recounting of votes of Bellary (Scheduled Tribe) Lok Sabha election. About Rs 40 crore will be used for taking up development of naxal-hit taluks, according to the supplementary estimate.

The then chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda had presented the 2012-13 budget with an outlay of Rs 1,02,742 crore. If the State Legislature gives approval for the supplementary estimate, the total expenditure will go up to Rs 1,06,412 crore. Interestingly, supplementary estimated budget has been submitted even before the Legislature has approved the complete budget for the entire fiscal.
