KAS former officer joins Congress

Former Commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation, Assistant Commissioner and Tahsildar J R Lobo formally joined the Congress, here at DCC office in Mangalore on Saturday. 

Speaking to presspersons later, he said that in a democracy, the political parties play a vital role in giving a good governance. If the political parties are unstable, then it will lead to the collapse of the democracy. The political parties should work towards the welfare of the society. 

Stating that he has not come here with an expectation of getting a high post in the party, he said that he wants to serve the people. “When we carry out good work, opportunities will come,” he said and re-iterated that he is not aspiring for any post.

“I believe in the principles of the Congress—secularism right from the beginning. It was the Congress which initiated good reforms like Land reforms and others in the country and helped poor.” He said that he decided to join the Congress after consultations with his well-wishers.

Welcoming Lobo, DCC President Ramanath Rai said that Lobo was always a Congress loyalist and that the party is happy to welcome him as its official member. A suitable position in the party would be given to him after consulting with the seniors. Lobo joining the Congress has strengthened the party. 

To a query on fielding Lobo in the next election, Rai said that it is left to the discretion of the Party High Command. “There is a long way to go for the election,” he said. On disasatisfaction expressed by the party leaders over Lobo joining the party, he said that there was no difference of opinion. All are welcome to join the party. As many as 40 persons have joined the Congress. 

Multi-faceted person 

Lobo after passing Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) exam, served as tahsildar in Madikeri, Koppa, Somwarpet and Puttur. Later, upon promotion, he served as Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies of undivided DK district from 1989-1993. He has also served as the Assistant Commissioner of Sirsi, Competent authority, Mangalore Bangalore Petroleum Pipeline Project, Commissioner of MCC (1999-2003), Deputy project director of KUDCEMP and presently is the Pilikula Nisargadhama Executive Director.
