The MLA appeared before the court for the hearing which lasted for only about 10 minutes. The judge Nipparagi adjourned the hearing till October 30 considering the requests made by Sampangi’s advocate seeking time to go through the charge sheet.

Sampangi was directed to appear before the court in person after the Lokayukta submitted the charge sheet against him following the consent given by the Assembly Speaker Jagadish Shettar recently.

The Lokayukta was waiting for the Speaker’s consent for the past three months to file the charge sheet. Assembly Speaker Jagadish Shettar gave consent to the Lokayukta to initiate legal proceedings against Sampangi before leaving for tour of Europe and America recently.

A Lokayukta team led by Bangalore Urban District Superintendent of Police K P Madhukar Shetty trapped Sampangi while he was allegedly accepting Rs 50,000 and a cheque for Rs 4.5 lakh at his room in the Legislatures’ Home on January 29 from Hussein Moin Farooq of Andersonpet in KGF.
