Delhi cop arrested for cheating woman

A 34-year-old Delhi Police constable was arrested here for cheating a widow whom he married to allegedly extract the compensation amount which she had got after the death of her first husband, police said on Monday.

Kumar, who was already married, in 2004 allegedly married Suneeta, 29, whose first husband had died a year ago in a road accident.

Kumar was posted at Delhi Police training centre in Malviya Nagar. He was arrested in Govindpuri on Saturday, said a police official.

“Kumar had met Suneeta during his deputation at Kalkaji area. He put a marriage proposal before her after knowing that she would get the compensation amount,” said a police officer.

“One year after the marriage, he became father of Suneeta’s son. In 2006, when Suneeta received the compensation amount, he started harassing her for money,” said the officer.

He extracted Rs 3.5 lakh from her, who alleged that Kumar purchased a flat, in south Delhi’s Arjun Nagar, and a car with the compensation amount. But suddenly, he vanished in 2008.

Suneeta had reported about him at Okhla police station and later came to know that he was residing with his first wife in Govindpuri.

In December 2008 also, she approached police but the authorities did not take action. After two years of police inaction, Suneeta moved a city court and Kumar was arrested following its order on May 19 this year.
