‘Sammilana’ was held with much enthusiasm at Surana College.

The first few days of college life can be nerve-wracking for any newcomer. With a new atmosphere, people and friends, it surely takes time for a fresher to settle in.

To help them settle in easily, Surana College hosts Sammilana, its annual freshers’ day every year, where freshers get an opportunity to not only interact with their seniors, but also showcase their talent.

Filled with loads of fun and energy, the afternoon made way for some foot-tapping music, friendly banter and a whole lot of games to break the ice. Actress Nivedita added the glamour quotient to the event. “Everyone must use this opportunity to get to know one and other and explore your talent,” she expressed.

While many of the seniors put up entertaining dance performances, the college dance team of Surana followed it up by grooving to numbers like Anarkali Disco Chali.
B G Mandy, a student of the college, performed a new rap, while the mad ads team of the college, had the audience in splits with their act.

“I really enjoyed the cultural programmes. It made me realise how talented our seniors are and we must follow their good work,” said Puja, a first-year student.

The students were also treated to a B-boying performance by Vinay, a fashion technology student. And Nandish, another student, showed off his cool moves in a hip-hop fusion number. The highlight, however, was the ‘Mr and Miss Fresher competition’.

The entire college was eagerly waiting for the event to start. And the confident lot made it very difficult for the judges to decide. The competition was not easy for the participants either.

They had to not only perform their best in various categories like music, dance, painting but also undergo a gruelling session of gaming and stress interview with the judges.  And after much deliberation, it was Apoorva D Sagar and Sachin Singh, from the first-year BCom section, who were crowned Mr and Miss Fresher.  The day ended with a treasure hunt, where the contestants proved their code-cracking skills.
