The final match between Nellamakkada and Macchamada teams were held at Ammathi High School grounds. Nellamakkada team won by 2-1 and won the cup for third time in the history of the tournament. From the beginning, both the teams showed tight fight to clinch the trophy. This is the second time that Macchamada team entering the finals. In fact, within six minutes, the team player M M Ayyappa had striked a goal and gave a good lead for the team. Though Nellamakkada team had 3 penalty corners, the players could not convert them into goals in the first half of the game. Hence, Macchamada team maintained the lead of 1-0 in the first half. In the second half, Nellamakkada team player Saji Nanaiah converted a penalty corner into a goal in the 46th minute.
This lead to more excitement in the match. In the 69th minute, Manju Muthappa of Nellamakkada team striked a goal in the penalty corner and lead to the victory of the team.
Nellamakkada team had entered finals five times in the past and won thrice.
Nellamakkada team’s Manju Muthappa won highest goal scorer award while Macchamada team’s Shyam won ‘man of the match’ award. Kalianda team’s Bharath won ‘man of the series’ award and Nellamakkada team’s Naveen Uthappa won best goal keeper award. Mudera Ganapathy won best full back award and Macchamada Shyam won forward player award. Best women player and hatrick goal striker award went to Kokkada Krithik while the senior player of the tourney award was clinched by Bacharaniyanda team’s Nanaiah. Maneyapanda family will host the next hockey tournament.
