'Cops' rob elderly women of gold

Men posing  as police officers robbed two elderly women of jewellery worth lakhs of rupees in separate incidents in the City. 

Radha, 64, of Bhuvaneshwari Nagar, was on her way to a shop near her house, when a man approached her, introducing himself as a cop. He started a conversation and admonished her on wearing a gold chain, despite police caution on chain snatchers. The man persisted and made her remove her gold chain. He took out a sheet of paper from his pocket and put the gold chain in it. Another man, also posing as a cop, approached them. He helped out the first man in packing the chain. An unsuspecting Radha went home with the packet only to find a stone packed in it.  A case has been registered at Hebbal police station.In a similar incident, two men approached Pachiyamma, 56, a resident of OMBR Layout and introduced themselves as cops. One of them asked her to take out her gold bangles while another took out a paper to wrap the bangles. They later placed it in her bag. Pachiyamma was impressed by the concern of the `cops’, but found a stone wrapped in the paper when she returned home. A case has been registered at Banasawadi police station.

‘Same gang involved’Senior police officials suspected the involvement of the same gang in both the incidents. “It might not have been the same persons, but two teams of the same gang are likely involved in the incidents,” said one of the police officials .  Diabetic kills self

A 29-year-old man, depressed after being diagnosed with diabetes, allegedly hanged himself at his house in Jaraganahalli on Monday. Mallikarjun, an HAL employee, married for two years, tested positive for diabetes recently. His wife saw him hanging from the ceiling fan and rushed him to a nearby private hospital where he was declared brought dead.  Sales executive killed Clement Raj, 24, a sales executive with a private firm, was killed after he rammed his bike into a road median in Frazer Town on Sunday. Raj, a resident of Ramamurthy Nagar, had been to a restaurant in Shivajinagar for a Friendship Day party with his five friends. They are said to have consumed alcohol.

The accident occurred while Raj was returning home from the party.  As he tried to overtake his friend’s bike, he lost control over his two-wheeler and hit the road median.He was rushed to Hosmat Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Anthony, the pillion rider, suffered multiple fractures.
