36 children rescued, 8 arrested

 Thirty-six children were rescued from garment industries and budget hotels at Geeta Colony in north-east Delhi on Tuesday.

 Police officials who were part of the rescue informed that eight employers have been arrested and 10 buildings sealed.  Some children were also rescued from a building next to the political office of Arvind Singh Lovely, Delhi minister of education.  The rescue operation was led by Sandeep Gulati, sub-divisional magistrate of Geeta Colony, accompanied by police, members of the labour department and activists.These children are aged between five and 14 and most of them belong to villages of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.  These children were forced to work for three to six months with no salary and were made to do zari and stitching work for long hours without proper lights. They belong to poor families and have been trafficked by agents who promised them a good life and education in the Capital.
