Last Updated 20 August 2012, 19:18 IST

In an attempt to rob the gold earrings of a four-year-old, a woman allegedly lopped off the child’s ears at TB Cross near Mayasandra on Monday morning.

Nethra had been out playing when the incident happened. The child was later found by her worried mother, Manjamma, bleeding from the ears.

Hospitalised

The child was rushed to Community Health Centre in the taluk, where she was treated for injuries. Nethra later told police that the woman, Ratnamma (also a native of TB Cross), had taken her for a short distance before she cut off her ears and dumped her behind a bush.
The police have arrested Ratnamma and are investigating the case.

Nethra has been shifted to Adichunchanagiri Hospital in Bangalore for further treatment.
