Nanaiah demands CBI probe into homestay attack

Home-stay attackers have not been booked under the Goonda Act till date

Condemning the State government’s inaction in conducting a fair probe on Mangalore home-stay attack, MLC and Former Minister M C Nanaiah demanded the investigation to be handed over to the CBI.

Addressing a press meet in Mangalore on Tuesday, Nanaiah said that a Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the High Court in this regard. The investigation should be conducted and the report should be submitted under the aegis of High Court.

The government seems to be under the pressure of Hindutva organisations. State Women's Commission Chief C Manjula and other BJP officials claim that the party held in the home-stay was a rave party even though ADGP Bipin Gopalkrishna who inspected the site has said that it was only a birthday party. The BJP government is trying to use the issue to gain political-mileage. The radical organisations are operating freely in the name of culture as they have governments support, alleged Nanaiah.

State Home Minister R Ashok had promised strict action. However, the miscreants till date have not been booked under the 'Goonda Act'. "It is difficult for the Home Minister in keeping up his promise on conducting a fair probe due to pressure within the party," he said.
The DK District in Charge Minister C T Ravi has not met the victims of the attack. It seems as if the government is defending the attackers, he alleged.

Nanaiah alleged that the police had prior information about the attack and have no right to blame media for not informing them about the incident.

"It is the media who have shown the incidents to the public. The footage is a major proof or else there were chances for the victims to be held on false charges of drug consumption and prostitution," he said.

"I appreciate former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa's statewide tour on drought affected areas. He is a good leader. Even if he speaks as a opposition leader in the Vidhan Sabha, BJP has not put him out. Even BJP President Nitin Gadkari is not doing anything against him. He is capable of establishing his own party and that would be the best for him," said Nanaiah.
