Jyoti Nivas College recently held its 4th annual convocation for the postgraduate and undergraduate students of the batch of 2011. The auditorium was buzzing with the energy of the students who attended the prestigious event with their proud and ecstatic parents.

The programme commenced with the arrival of the procession led by the Controller of Examinations followed by the deans of the various disciplines, the heads of departments, the college principal and the guests of honour. The students were welcomed with the lamp lighting ceremony, accompanied by the invocation song.

The students of each stream were honoured for excellence in their subjects, after which they were awarded their degrees. “Our guiding principle is to provide the benefits of higher education to all sections of society – from the meritorious and well-to-do to the equally deserving but physically, socially and economically challenged. True empowerment comes not from force, but from knowledge. Only through empowerment through higher education can every citizen realize their potential,” said Dr Sister Elizabeth CS, the principal.

For any student, regardless of whatever field they are pursuing, this day was bound to be an important milestone of their life. When asked about their experiences in college, Vandana, a BCom graduate said, “It was a fabulous experience, especially since it is a women’s college. It makes you a stronger and more independent individual. The education I received has been fruitful and the staff members here were very supportive.”

Convocations usually see students appreciating the value of education. “The college provided us with a holistic environment and prepared us for our future endeavours. Ours being a vocational course, we got hands-on experience in the field. I plan to pursue a masters in psychology after this,” said Divya, a Communicative English graduate.

The ceremony ended with a beautiful rendition of the college anthem by the college choir.
