Windfall strikes college teachers

The UGC-revised scale benefit will be applicable only if the teachers fulfil the qualification eligibility criteria, including possessing NET/SLET/PhD through course work. Also, promotion will not only be time-bound but will be linked to performance. The academic performance guidelines on a 100-point scale is presently being worked out by the UGC.

Here are some examples:

Illustration 1
A lecturer is drawing a basic pay of Rs 8275 as on 1.08.2005 in the existing scale of pay — Rs 8000-275-13500. In the revised pay structure, the applicable pay band is 15600-39100 with an academic grade pay (AGP) of Rs 6000. His/her date of increment is August 1 every year. The pay in the revised pay band shall be fixed as follows:
Basic pay — Rs 8275
Pay in the Pay band as per the fitment table
AGP applicable — Rs  6000
Revised basic pay — Rs 21600
He/she shall be fixed at a basic pay of Rs 21600 and re-designated as assistant professor. The next date of annual increment shall be 1st July 2006 and pay after increment is Rs 22250.

Illustration 2
A professor is drawing a basic pay of Rs 20450 as on 1.07.2005 in the existing scale of pay of Rs16400-22400. In the revised pay structure, the applicable pay band is 37400-67000 with an academic grade pay of Rs 10000. His/her date of increment is 1st July every year. The pay in the revised pay band shall be fixed as follows:
Basic pay — Rs 20450
Pay in the pay band (as per fitment table) — Rs 46050
AGP applicable — Rs 10000
Revised basic pay — Rs 56050
He/she shall be fixed at a basic pay of Rs 56050. The next date of annual increment shall be July 1, 2006, and pay after increment is Rs 57740.
