Eight dogs, including a Pomeranian, were rescued by BBMP officials and Amruthahalli police, on Saturday.

The dogs were found tied to trees in a drugged state near Jakkur airfield, Dr Pervez Ahmed Piran, BBMP’s joint commission, animal husbandry said. Five persons including a woman, all natives of Hindupur, Andhra Pradesh have been arrested for their alleged involvement and booked under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

The blood samples of the dogs have been sent for forensic tests to identify the drug used for sedation, Piran said. “A few dogs were also found near a stormwater drain in a decomposed state. There is definitely a larger picture to the case and police are investigating the matter,” he added. The Pomeranian has been sent to an animal welfare NGO. The owner can contact Dr Piran on 9480683010.
