Shifting the spotlight from the Centre to states, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) president and chairman of the Godrej Group of companies Adi Godrej said the time has come to look at them, especially the successful ones, to drive growth.

"We need to focus on reforms at State level as a lot is dependent on them. Some states have been growing at double digits. We are trying to benchmark their best practices and see if the same can be replicated by other states to boost growth.

If some states can achieve, why can't others?", he said, during an interaction with the media here today. He said as part of the process, he met Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and Chief Secretary S V Ranganath and discussed ways to accelerate growth.

He reiterated that introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) at an early date would be a tremendous macro-economic stimulus to spur growth by about 1.5 per cent.
On corruption charges allegedly involving some Indian companies in the recent coal "scam", he declined to comment, except for saying, "CII has no authority to control its members, but we don't support those who flout norms.
