Police opened fire on a fleeing rowdy-sheeter injuring him in the legs during a chase in Jnanabharathi on Thursday. Two constables also sustained injuries in the incident.

Rowdy-sheeter Nadeem Khan was wanted by the police in a recent case of damaging vehicles parked on the roads in Bapuji Nagar, Maruthi Nagar, Kavika Layout and other areas in Byatarayanapura police station limits.

A man in one of the vehicles was also assaulted. Police had arrested Prakash and Lokesh in connection with the incident and were on the lookout for Nadeem.

Acting on a tip-off, the police zeroed in on Nadeem at Jnanabharathi. On seeing the cops, he fled on a motorbike. As the cops caught him after a chase, Nadeem attacked three constables with a dagger. Police inspector T Kodandaram fired three shots at Nadeem in self defence. Two bullets hit his legs, said S N Siddaramappa, DCP (West).

The injured constables - Puttaswamy and Venkatesh Naidu – are being treated at a private hospital. Nadeem too has been hospitalised.
