The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to P Manivannan, Managing Director, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company, for non-compliance of its order on introducing Time of the Day tariff (ToD).

In a first of its kind move ever since its formation, the KERC has directed the MD, Bescom to furnish his reply to the show -cause notice by September 10 and appear before the Commission on September 13.

According to a press release, the Commission has taken a serious view of the fact that the Bescom has not taken any steps to introduce the ToD tariff despite granting four months’ time.

It said of the 1,278 electrical installations only 42 have been brought under the ToD. The Commission has said that the ToD tariff is made compulsory for all high tension 2(a) and 2(b) category consumers having contact demand of 500 KVA and more.

The high tension consumers to whom ToD is applicable are required to pay Re one per unit as additional charge for use of electricity during the peak hours between 6 pm to 10 pm, while they are entitled for a rebate of Rs 1.25 per unit power consumed between 10 pm and 6 am.

The Commission has pointed out that Mescom and Cesc have brought all their high tension consumers under ToD while Gescom and Hescom have committed to ensure 100 per cent compliance by the end of September.
