Delhi Police have questioned Bollywood actor Nupur Mehta in Mumbai in connection with the Geetika Sharma suicide case.

Though senior police officials refused to give details, it is believed that she was questioned about former Haryana minister and key accused Gopal Goyal Kanda’s personal and professional relationship with 23-year-old Geetika.

According to sources, a team questioned Nupur for three hours late on Monday evening. Her name was drawn into the suicide probe after police found that Geetika had accused her of theft in Panaji in September 2009.

Geetika was also allegedly under pressure from Kanda to withdraw her complaint against Nupur and Ankita Singh, an MDLR Group employee whose name was also mentioned in the victim’s two-page suicide note.

In the theft case filed against Nupur and Ankita in Panaji, Geetika had claimed that the two had threatened to kill her and her family members if she did not resign from Mint Club.

Nupur, former senior vice president of MDLR Airlines, had earlier claimed that she had mentored Geetika when the latter applied for a cabin crew job in 2006.

Nupur had also claimed that Geetika was close to Kanda, and the two had gone on several trips together to London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai and Macau.

Ankita yet to join probe

Delhi Police are likely to take strict action against Ankita as she is yet to join the probe. Two weeks ago, she had told police over phone that she will join the investigation soon, but she went into hiding.

“We are waiting for her. If she does not join the probe in the next few days, we will take action,” said P Karunakaran, deputy commissioner of police (north-west).

In the suicide note, Geetika alleged that Ankita had an illicit relationship with Kanda and they have a girl child.

Investigators have already prepared a questionnaire to interrogate Ankita for getting information on her relationship with Geetika and Kanda, her objections with Geetika and whether there was any pressure built by Kanda on her too.

Initial probe has revealed that Ankita was working as ground staff in Delhi when MDLR Airlines was launched. When Kanda bought two casinos in Goa — Mint Club and the floating Casino Rio — Ankita and other staff were sent there.

A team of Delhi Police had recently visited Ankita’s house in Goa to record her statement, but she was unavailable. The team had also visited a shop run by Ankita’s brother, but they found the shop shut.

Geetika had hanged herself at her house in Ashok Vihar in north-west Delhi on August 5. Her family alleged that Kanda had been harassing her.
