The High Court on Thursday directed the government to file a status report on a petition alleging discrepancies in distribution of BPL cards.

Hearing a petition by Minister S A Ramdas, the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice B V Nagarathna directed the State government to furnish details pertaining to the distribution of cards to both the eligible and ineligible.

Additional advocate general K M Natraj submitted that 31 lakh applications have been received for the cards. Those applications which are not eligible have been cancelled and the eligible will get the cards, he added.

The Bench directed to file a status report and adjourned the matter. Ramdas, in 2006, had filed the petition when he was not a legislator complaining that BPL cards were issued to ineligible persons.
