A police constable attached to Bilikere station had to pay with his life when a lorry fatally knocked him down, in the line of duty on Thursday night.
Nanjunda Shetty (35), of Natanahalli in Saligrama in K R Nagar taluk in the district is that unfortunate victim.
According to sub-inspector Jeevan, Shetty went to highway 88 following a mishap call.
A two-wheeler rider later identified as Mahadev (55) of Kalkunike in Hunsur had been run over by an unidentified vehicle.
Shetty was controlling the crowd at the spot, when a speeding lorry rammed into him, killing him on the spot.
SP R Dileep attended the last rites of Shetty at his native on Friday.
