<p>A 65-year-old woman, who was a retired assistant income tax commissioner, was found dead under mysterious conditions at her Rohini residence of outer Delhi on Wednesday afternoon. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Her hands and legs were tied with rope and the house was ransacked, police said.<br />She has been identified as Gurjeet Kaur, 65, who used to live alone at her D-Block flat in Rohini sector 8. According to Mohammad Akhtar Rizvi, additional deputy commissioner of police (outer), the death came to light when her domestic help arrived around 4 pm.<br /><br />“The domestic help found the main door of the house open and Gurjeet’s hands and legs tied to a chair. We suspect that she was gagged, bound and strangled,” another senior police official said. <br /><br />Investigators are waiting for the forensic investigation report. “The exact cause of the death will be clear only after post-mortem is conducted,” the official added.<br /><br />Gurjeet’s domestic help had immediately informed the woman’s neighbours and a doctor for checkup. The doctor, however, declared her dead, upon which a call was made to the police control room.<br /><br />A team of crime branch police inspected the house and prima facie it appears that the assailants made a friendly entry into the house and attacked Gurjeet while trying to escape with valuables.<br /><br />“A case of murder has been registered at Rohini North police station. The house is ransacked, but we are investigating the case from all possible angles,” Rizvi said.<br />Gurjeet had employed two domestic helps in her house. According to sources, one of the domestic helps has gone missing and police are trying to trace her.<br /><br />The elderly woman’s husband died four years back. Out of her three children, a son lives in the United States while two daughters are living in east Delhi. All the children are married.<br /><br />Police have informed her family members and preserved the body for post-mortem at Dr B R Ambedkar Hospital. Cops are presently questioning the victim’s domestic help and neighbours to get some clues.</p>
