'MP is quiet on harmful projects'

Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah asked why MP Vishwanath is keeping quiet when the Centre is implementing harmful projects like creation of Buffer zone, project tiger, hi-tension wire and Unesco tag on Western Ghats in Kodagu.

Speaking after inaugurating a gram panchayat office and primary health centre at Kanoor, he said the report submitted by Madhav Gadgil is being translated into Kannada language, to create awareness on the harmful projects of the Centre. “The people of Kodagu know how to conserve sacred groves and sources of water.

There was shortage of nurses and staff in the government hospitals. All efforts are being made to solve the problem. The State government has responded positively for the setting up of Medical College in Kodagu. The State is making preparations to avail permission from the Centre. About 25 acre land has been identified for the college,” he said.

District-in-Charge Minister M P Appachu Ranjan said the programmes of the government should reach all the beneficiaries. In the last four years, the PWD roads have been developed in the district. The work on Moornadu-Gonikoppa, Hunasoor-Aanechowkoor will be taken up in the future.

The Minister promised to release funds for Kanoor Mahila Samaja and Garadi mane for women.  The public contact programme will be held at Kutta on September 29.

Zilla Panchayat President Shantheyanda Ravi Kushalappa, ZP members Shakuntha Ravindra spoke. Kanoor Gram Panchayat President Kadyamada S Bharath said that the primary health centre was built at a cost of Rs 1.10 crore. The Gram Panchayat building was built at a cost of Rs 12 lakh.
