How answer scripts of tainted college were 'secretly' evaluated

Last Updated 25 September 2012, 20:59 IST

The irregularities in Bangalore University with regard to blacklisted colleges had begun as early as June at a time when the university declared that the results of the students of these colleges would be withheld till further orders.

Deccan Herald has obtained copies of the result sheet of the Bangalore City College of Education, which was announced ‘secretly’ in June this year.

The college is one of the 11 institutions under the scanner for poor infrastructure. These colleges had conducted the theory exams for first semester in May this year. It was decided not to evaluate their answer scripts as their affiliations were at stake due to the alleged irregularities. The colleges would not get the results.

However, on May 24, Roopmala K, chairperson of the Board of Examination (BoE), requested former registrar (evaluation) T R Subramanya to allow valuation of these answer scripts as the answer scripts of all colleges were mixed up and it would be a humongous task to segregate them.

The argument was that this would delay the valuation of answer scripts from other colleges as well. However, on May 30, the chairperson of the BoE was directed not to evaluate any of the answer scripts from the 11 colleges. The answer scripts of these colleges were kept aside and the evaluation was taken up.

While the university has been maintaining that the results for these colleges have not been declared, officials in the university ‘secretly’ allowed evaluation and declaration of results for the Bangalore City College of Education.

The results were declared on June 19. It has always been stated at the Academic Council and Syndicate meetings that the exam results and the affiliation of these institutions are still pending.

Meanwhile, the chairperson of the BoE has confirmed that the evaluation for this college was indeed taken up. She said she was not aware that the college was among the blacklisted institutions.

“In the list given to us, asking us not to evaluate the papers of 11 colleges, the name of Bangalore City College did not figure at all. How was I to know?”

She said declaring results was not under her purview and it came under the registrar (evaluation). She said she did not know how the results were declared. Meanwhile, Registrar (administration) B C Mylarappa blamed Vice Chancellor Prabhu Dev for initiating the evaluation for this particular college, in a statement to Deccan Herald.
