An eight-year-old boy was found dead in the sump of a building under construction at Muneshwara Nagar, Devarajeevanahalli (DJ Halli) in the early hours of Wednesday.

Wajid Pasha, son of Irshad Pasha, a welder and a resident of Muneshwara Nagar, off Shyampura Main Road, is the deceased.

Wajid was studying in class II at S P Mariyam School in the locality. On Tuesday afternoon, he returned home from school at 3:30 pm and had his lunch. He went out to play with his friends, after taking a five-rupee note from his mother to buy biscuits.

His mother panicked when he did not return home even by nightfall. The family began searching for the boy and enquired his friends, neighbours and relatives. They lodged a missing complaint at the DJ Halli police station. The police joined the family in searching for the boy throughout the night, but to no avail.

On Wednesday, one of the labourers working at an under-construction building nearby came out screaming after seeing the body of a young boy floating in the sump.

The boy’s family and the police rushed to the spot and the body was identified to be that of Wajid.

The police suspect the boy may have fallen into the sump accidentally while playing with his friends on Tuesday afternoon.

Autopsy was conducted  at Dr B R Ambedkar Medical College hospital and the body was handed over to the family by evening. Wajid’s grandfather Afsar Pasha told Deccan Herald, “He was a very bright boy. We lost him to fate.”

Police said the sump was left open without a lid. They have booked a case of negligence against Ansar Parveen, the owner of the building. He has been detained for questioning.

Molestation attempt

A middle-aged man allegedly attempted to molest a minor girl in Anekal on Wednesday. A few local residents reportedly caught him, thrashed him and handed him over to the police.

The victim was sent to the hospital for medical examination, according to sources.
“Nothing can be said till we get the medical report,” the Anekal police said.

It is said that the suspect was heavily drunk and managed to take the victim with him to a nearby grove. The victim came out weeping minutes later and narrated the incident to a few passersby who rushed into the grove and caught him.
