CMC to discuss Karnataka petition on October 8

The Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) headed by Union Water Resources Secretary will meet here on October 8 to discuss the review petition filed by Karnataka before the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) on its order to release water to Tamil Nadu.

The Chief Secretaries of all the Cauvery basin states are members of the CMC. Karnataka filed the petition seeking review of the CRA direction to it to release 9,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu.

Earlier, the CMC had sought the comments of Cauvery basin States on the review petition of Karnataka. The CMC meeting will discuss the issue and put forth its suggestions before the CRA.

Secretary Union Water Resources D V Singh, who is also chairman of the official-level CMC, has written to the states concerned seeking their “views and comments” on the matter.

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who is here to attend the BJP national executive meeting, will hold a meeting with Karnataka legal team on Friday.
