High Court seeks report

Last Updated 28 September 2012, 17:23 IST

The High Court has directed the Karnataka government to submit a report, to be prepared by Rajeev Chawla, Principal Secretary of Department of Public Enterprises, to check the menace of unauthorised layouts in Bangalore.

During the hearing of a petition by Channaveera Gowda, a resident of Channapatna in Ramanagar district challenging an alleged illegal land transfer, Justice Ram Mohan Reddy recalled the work done by Rajeev Chawla on computerisation of land records. He directed the court staff to call Chawla for attending the proceedings. Chawla, who appeared before the court, gave details on how simple technology could be deployed to ensure transparency in land management.

The judge observed that civic bodies such as the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike require an appropriate software to check formation of illegal layouts. “Since the existing administration set up is insufficient to tackle the menace, IT infrastructure could be brought in,” Justice Reddy said. He directed that the report be placed by October 4, 2012.
