5 killed as roof of shop caves in

Five people lost their lives when the roof of a shop came crashing down on them at Chakavelu village in Bagepalli taluk on Friday.

Another woman was seriously injured in the accident.Eshwaramma, 26, and her son five-year-old Harshavardhan, both from Venkatareddapalli tanda, Venkatarayappa, 45, of Venkateshapalli village, Rajamma, 35, of Venkatareddypalli tanda and Lakshmidevi, 35, are the dead.

Unlucky wait

According to the police, the group was taking shelter in front of the shop because of a delay in the arrival of their bus.

The police said that the roof of the shop, which was in a dilapidated condition, collapsed on them. Falling iron rods and beams from the roof instantly killed Eshwaramma, Harshavardhan and Venkatarayappa.

While, Lakshmidevi, 35, died on the way to hospital, Rajamma died at the Chintamani hospital. Papulamma, who received serious injuries, was treated at the Primary Health Centre in Chakavelu. Papulamma was later shifted to Bangalore for treatment.
