Cauvery Hitarakshana Samiti president G Madegowda warned of intensifying protests against release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, in the light of Supreme Court adjourning hearing of review petition filed by Karnataka government.

Speaking to mediapersons after the apex court put off the hearing on Monday, he said he did not believe in the State government’s stand against releasing water to the neighbouring state.

The veteran farmers’ leader urged ministers and legislators from the State to resign and join the protests.

“None of the ministers will be allowed to enter Mandya district. People will stage sit-in in front of houses of ministers, legislators and demand their resignations. People’s power is supreme ,” he said.

Farmers’ leader K S Puttanaiah said that the hearing has been adjourned to ensure the implementation of the CRA directive. “Water will not be released at any cost. The protests will be continued till the next hearing,” he said.

He also said that a team, under legislator C S Puttaraju, has been stationed at Krishnarajasagar dam to guard against the release of water.
