Students desirous of pursuing higher education in the distance mode are advised to check the current status of approval or recognition of programmes of universities and institutions on the Distance Education Council’s (DEC’s) website.
The authorities of DEC, a statutory body of the Indira Gandhi National Open University announced that in the absence of DEC approval, qualifications acquired through distance mode shall not be treated as recognizsed for the purpose of employment under the central government.
This action was taken when the council noticed that certain universities and institutions were placing misleading advertisements in newspapers and other media for admission in programmes through the distance mode, indicating that they were approved.
