Foodies have platter on offer

Dasara food mela: Menu has many specials; to start from October 16

Dosa, rotti, Bengali food, Andhra food, north Karnataka special, Kain food, Kerala food, Mysore rural food and coastal food.

This is the menu of Dasara food mela scheduled to be held from October 16 to 22 between 6 pm and 9 pm on the premises of Command Area Development Authority (CADA) office opposite Palace in the city.

Announcing this to media here on Friday, chairman of food sub-committee M Rajendra said apart from the regular items, region specials are dished out on split days. On October 16, it’s the day to savour Bengali food besides cultural programme of the particular State organised by Saleel Kumar Das.

Similarly, following day has Andhra food and cultural programmes, with the artistes of Natyas Academy performing in the evening, followed by north Karnataka food and cultural programme by Kripa Phadke and Troupe on October 18, Jain food and cultural programme by Bhushan Academy of Performing Arts on October 19, Kerala food and cultural programme by Iqbal Manalodi of Kerala Samaj on October 20, Mysore rural food and cultural programme by Bhargavi and Troupe from Udupi on October 21 and coastal food and cultural programme by Kala Sourabha Troupe, Mangalore on October 22.

Apart from mouth watering masala dosa the USP of Mysore, the food lovers have varieties in Davangere benne (butter) dosa, ragi dosa, neer dosa of Udupi, besides that of onion, panneer, ravat and also cucumber uthappa.

For those having a taste for rotti, they are available in platter; like those made of jola, rice and also ragi with side dishes like ennegai palya and chutney, shenga chutney powder and also uchchellu chutney.

Chaat

The chaat includes bangarpet pani puri, samosa, paav bhaji, gobi manchurian, noodles, fried rice, baby corn masala and also special churmuri. If you feel it’s too spicy, then you have ice-creams too to binge on in different flavours, besides juices of sugarcane and fruits and also our own Nandini products.

Meat lovers too have many on offer from kebab, pepper dry, chilli and also biriyani all in chicken and dum biriyani both mutton and chicken and chicken tandoori. Fish will be made available in fry  and kebab.

To enable all, the panel has decided to offer food in pocket-friendly rates and has also made it mandatory for the shop owners to display the price chart.

Stalls

In all 55 shops will be allowed with rent fixed per day at Rs 7,000. Rajendra said as many as 300 applications have been received and if situation warrants, they (traders) will be selected through lottery system.

However, he clarified that only quality food makers will be considered. To keep track of quality and also food prices, besides  water and power supply and hygiene separate monitoring committees have been formed within the panel. The only miss this year is Dasara thali, thanks to the ongoing Cauvery agitation that has dealt a blow to the tourist industry causing them loss to the tune of 65 pc to 70 pc in the season. Working president and deputy director of food and civil supplies Kumuda Girish, secretary and assistant director of food and civil supplies B P Devaiah and others were present.
