Punjab police today claimed to have safely rescued the minor girl, who was kidnapped from Faridkot on September 24, from Goa and also arrested the main accused in the case.

Nishan Singh, who had kidnapped the minor, had taken her to Goa, IG Bathinda Zone Nirmaljeet Singh Dhillon said here.

Following the initial clues, a police team including a lady constable, was rushed to Goa, he said.

Dhillon added that the police team arrested Nishan and safely rescued the 15-year-old girl.
The girl, a Class X student, was allegedly kidnapped in full public view by Nishan, who also fired shots in air.

During the investigation, 13 persons were arrested and the fire arms and the vehicle used in the crime recovered, he said.

The SAD-BJP government in the state came under heavy criticism from opposition Congress over the delay in rescue of the abducted girl and arrested of the accused person.

Following a public outcry, two senior police officials, including DIG Ferozepur range P S Umranangal, were also transferred by the government.

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal recently announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to the arrest of the main accused.
