Panel to verify allotment of 'G' category sites

Last Updated 21 October 2012, 17:33 IST

The Karnataka government has constituted a three-member panel, comprising former High Court judges, to scrutinise  allotment of ‘G’ category sites by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) between 2006 and 2007. Justices Padmaraj and Rangavittalachar and former chief secretary P B Mahishi will head the panel.

Following a public interest litigation, a Division Bench of the High Court had directed the State government to constitute the committee for scrutiny of allotment of sites under ‘G’ category. The Court has asked the government to pay Rs two lakh as honorarium, provide necessary infrastructure and furnish relevant documents to the panel.

The petitioner, Vasudeva, had issued a show-cause notice to the chief secretary, secretary to Urban Development Department and the BDA commissioner as the government dithered action on the Court directive. He had alleged that sites were allotted without receiving any applications.
