5 held for selling fake cellphones

Five men have been arrested in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh for involvement in a duplicate Samsung mobile phones and accessories selling racket.

According to Devesh Chandra Srivastva, additional commissioner of police (central), Bharat Bhushan, 49, Sachin Kamra, 28, Bhajan Singh, 29, Sanjay Kumar, 40, and Raghubir Singh, 26 were held after specific information was received on Tuesday.

“The information was further developed and a raid was conducted at Vicky Mobile at Hardyan Singh Road in Karol Bagh which belongs to Bhajan,” Srivastva said.
Police recovered 161 duplicate mobile phones of different models during the raid.

Another raid

In another raid, 130 duplicate mobile phones of different models were recovered from Chanchal Electronics which belongs to Bharat.

“We also seized 152 duplicate batteries from Bulls Power which belongs to Sachin,” Srivastva added.

Bhajan disclosed that he was in dire need of money and to fulfill his family demand, he started selling fake Samsung mobile phones and accessories.

He further disclosed that he used to purchase them from Sanjay. At the instance of Bhajan, a raid was conducted at a shop which belongs to Sanjay.

“Sanjay was previously in business of transport, but due to loss in business, he started selling counterfeit mobile phones and accessories. He used to buy them from Sunil,” Srivastva said.

A case under the Copyright Act has been lodged with Karol Bagh police station and investigation is on.
