Anganwadi workers demand pension

Over 500 workers staged a protest dharna in front of the taluk office on Monday under the aegis of the Federation and demanded monthly pension and security schemes. They took out a rally from the IB in the town, passed through the main streets.
More than a lakh women are working as anganwadi workers and helpers across the state. They handle multiple responsibilities such as pre-school education, health check-up, distribution of nutritious food, imparting several information to the general public, adult education, but they are the ones getting least government benefits, said the Federation State resident Ramachandrappa.

Minimum wages

State Secretary Radha Sundaresh said the anganwadi workers are not getting minimum wages and any other social security.

The government should fix Rs 5,000 monthly salary to anganwadi workers and Rs 3,000 to the helpers. They should also be given Rs 1,500 and Rs 750 pension per month respectively, she said. Anasuyamma, Manjula, Parvathamma and Manjunath led the protest.
