In a veiled reference to B S Yeddyurappa’s plan to float a new party, the General Secretary of the BJP,  H N Ananth Kumar said that the party was not dependent on any individual for its survival.

Addressing a special meeting here on Friday, Kumar said the country occupies the top slot in the BJP’s scheme of priorities, followed second by the party. Individuals come last, he added. Deriding the ‘family politics’ of the Congress and the JD(S), he said nothing can be expected from parties where family members run the show.

Blaming the Union government for the Cauvery fiasco, Kumar said ex-prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee had dreamt of linking rivers across the country and the present crisis could have been averted if the project was implemented.

D B Chandre Gowda, a BJP MP described the Congress’ ‘Lekka Kodi’ campaign as meaningless. He said Congress appears to lack common sense that such information should be sought only on a proper forum.
