About 10 days after a 32-year-old man alleged that his HDFC Bank account was hacked and Rs 3.78 lakh was siphoned off, a central Delhi-based businessman now claims that Rs 4.57 lakh was withdrawn from his company’s account by using internet banking facility.

Amit Gupta, partner of Shreechakra Bearing Services at Shradha Nand Marg, told police that the incident came to light when he received an SMS from the HDFC Bank indicating some deduction from the account through third party transfer service.

“I immediately informed our manager Harsh Vardhan Mishra at the bank’s GB Road branch. I was also informed that the amount was withdrawn by using third party transfer facility, but we have never activated the facility,” Amit said.

At the bank, Amit was told that a total of Rs 4,57,800 was transferred from the account by 18 transactions since October 30.

The money was transferred to various accounts maintained with HDFC Bank.
Amit alleged that the fraud could not have happened without the connivance of bank staff.
“We had requested the bank to immediately contact the concerned branches and to take immediate action against the beneficiaries. But they refused to do so,” said Amit.

He added that his Vodafone cellphone number was used to conduct the fraud. On inquiring from Vodafone customer care, he was told that a duplicate sim-card was issued to someone, using forged documents, from a store in Sarita Vihar on October 29.

A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act was registered over Amit’s complaint at Crime Branch police station.

“The Cyber Cell of Economic Offences Wing is investigating the matter,” a police official said.
