A class II student of Cluney Convent, Malleswaram, sustained serious facial injuries when a slide she was playing on at the school crashed on her Tuesday morning.

Ten-year-old Nandini, who suffers from Down’s syndrome, has not been able to breathe through her nostrils after the accident, her family said.

Nandini’s father Mohan Kumar told Deccan Herald that his wife Sridevi had dropped their daughter at the school in the morning. Before she could reach home, she received a call from the school authorities that their daughter had been injured in an accident and that she had been admitted to a nearby private hospital.

Doctors at the hospital told Sridevi that the condition of Nandini was serious and advised her to shift her to a better-equipped hospital. She was immediately rushed to Columbia Asia Hospital in Yeshwantpur.

A spokesperson of the hospital said the girl was brought in the afternoon with facial injuries, including a cheek bone fracture and a disfigured nose. The girl, who is being treated in the ward, will undergo a surgery Wednesday morning.

Her condition is stable and she is able to speak to her parents, he said. Kumar said he would file a complaint with the police seeking action against the school for negligence.
