Party General Secretary Jayalalitha has fielded Susairaj and S Ramanathan respectively for the constituencies. Flagging off the campaign from Chennai on Tuesday, she claimed that AIADMK has been involved in Maharashtra’s socio-political activities for more than a decade and a half.

The first government under her leadership had donated Rs 2.33 crore to victims of Latur quakes in 1993, whilst  ‘Amma’ had personally donated Rs 30,000 to consecrate an ancient Ganesha temple in Dharavi, Asia’s biggest slum with high concentration of Tamil people.

The list of “donations” continued with a contribution of Rs 1 lakh from the AIADMK chief to a Marathi woman who was “inhumanly tortured” and distribution of ‘saris’ and dhotis to people during the 2005 floods in Mumbai.

In what may be called a representation of the Tamil cause, the party had asked the Maharashtra government to print textbooks in Tamil to facilitate students learning through Tamil medium in the state, in line with its efforts to distribute textbooks in the respective languages of those in Telugu and Kannada mediums.
