Women experts on Wednesday demanded speedy governmental intervention to get a framework for valuation of unpaid labour of women in the household.
Experts gathered under the aegis of Women and Child Development Ministry on Wednesday emphasized that such valuation will not only help in establishing her claim on national exchequer leading to inclusion in national policy, but also in determining legal compensation in case of divorce. “This will immensely contribute in empowering women,” asserted experts.
The Women and Child Development ministry had invited experts from different streams to deliberate upon ‘Valuation of Household Work Undertaken by Women in India’. Minister of State Krishna Tirath chaired the meeting and experts including Jayati Ghosh (JNU), Indira Hirway (Director for Centre for Development Alternatives), Amita Shah ( Director, Gujarat Institute for Development Research), Asha Mehta Kapur ( Indian Institute of Public Administration), Indrani Chandrasekharan (Planning Commission), Sudham Kapoor (UN Women) and representatives from National Council for Women and various ministries.
