Ruling out the allegations of the parents of Soujanya, a college student who was raped and found murdered recently, that the police had refused to give them the FIR copy and the post mortem reports, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal has said that the police is ready to furnish them the details at any moment.

Responding to a query by media persons on Wednesday, he said that the police would hand over the FIR copy, post mortem reports and the case diary to Soujanya’s parents if they visit the SP’s office and seek for it.

“We have refused to give the copies to various organisations and individuals who have been asking for it on behalf of Soujanya’s parents. But the Department is ready to furnish the details to the girl’s parents and to whoever asks for the information under the Right to Information Act,” he said.

On the demands to hand over the case to the CID or CBI, the SP said he is ready to hand over, if a written application requesting for the same is submitted by the victim’s parents. “So far, we have not received any request letter from Soujanya’s family. If they submit the application to me or the IGP, we will forward it to the higher authorities,” he confirmed.

Stating that Santhosh Rao was the only accused in the case, he said the police have no other suspects in the crime. The mob which had gathered at Belthangady police station shouting that they would kill Santhosh following his arrest, have now taken a different stand of supporting the accused.

If the people suspect the involvement of anybody else in the crime, they can give it to us in writing and police would take forward the investigation, Goyal said.
