Six members of a gang have been arrested for an armed attack inside a restaurant in north-east Delhi’s Dilshad Garden last month in which a Delhi Police head constable and two employees of the restaurant were injured.

According to police, a violent brawl had taken place inside Rasoi Restaurant in Dilshad Garden block L on October 31 which involved about a dozen members of a gang led by Dinesh Pehalwan, a bouncer.

They had broken counters at the main entrance, tables inside the restaurant and assaulted the staff. Restaurant’s owner Harish Gupta had approached police during the melee after which head constables Satish and Bijender, posted with Seemapuri police station, rushed to the spot. They tried to bring the situation under control, but were attacked.

“Satish and Bijender succeeded in apprehending three to four assailants of the gang, but the assailants attacked Bijender with rods and managed to flee,” said V V Chaudhary, additional commissioner of police (north-east).

Bijender sustained grievous injuries in the attack and underwent treatment at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital along with restaurant’s employees Akhilesh Kumar and Satender Singh.

During investigation, police conducted raids at Seemapuri, Nand Nagri, Harsh Vihar, Gokulpuri and Ghaziabad and two accused — Jai Karan and and Punit — were arrested on Sunday.

Other gang members Amit Tyagi, Anar Singh, Paramveer and Kamal Kishore were later nabbed on the basis of details provided by Jai and Punit. However, kingpin Dinesh Pahalwan and two of his accomplices are still absconding.

The attack was recorded on a CCTV camera installed at the restaurant which has helped police identify the absconding accused as Pawan Choudhary and Bhola.
