CMC office turns disease centre

Public toilet behind the office of the local body ill-maintained

The premises of the City Municipal office has turned into a breeding ground for vector-borne diseases. The public toilet constructed behind the office has threatened the very ambience of the office of the local body.

It appears that the public toilet behind the CMC office has not been cleaned for years together.

It is nothing but an irony that the municipality, the civic agency which ensures cleanliness in the city, has done little to maintain the toilet near its own office.

The stench from the toilet pervades the entire office premises, putting the office staff and the visiting public at the risk of contracting diseases.

“Public toilets are located at very few places in the City. Except near the old bus stand, Bagepalli bus stand, BB Road, there are no public toilets anywhere else. The one behind the Post Office was demolished. Obviously, people relieve themselves at all the public places.

“How can you expect hygiene under such circumstances?” said Subrahmanya, a resident. It is the responsibility of the City Municipality to ensure public health.

It appears that the councillors and the staff of the municipality have abdicated their responsibility.

“If the CMC cannot maintain a public toilet close to its office, what is the guarantee that it will ensure cleanliness in the City,” he asked.

The squalor at the toilet has been affecting the staff at the municipality and the people living in the vicinity.

It is high time that the civic agency takes steps to maintain sanitation at least at the public toilet just behind its office.
