The St Joseph's Industrial Training Institute (Jeppu) new ITI block was inaugurated by Udupi Bishop Rev Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo on Thursday.

“India is progressing towards development and this fact is recognised globally. However, unemployment seems to be a major issue. There is a need to address this problem. Self employment can be a solution for this,” said Dr Lobo.

He also advised ITIs to develop its network with industries and increase connectivity. By doing this, companies will visit institutions to recruit its students.

With this, the students will be motivated to join ITIs, he said. There is always a great demand for skilled workers, he opined.

Government ITI Principal Shivappa M said that ITI students are easily placed than engineers. Most of the engineers do not agree to do small jobs as they find they are more highly educated.

“ITI students who have practical knowledge can easily blend in the industry and grow.

However, ITI students can also become engineers as they have reservation seats. The students should make use of this opportunity, he said.
