Defence Ministry claims Adarsh land

Last Updated 14 December 2012, 19:13 IST

Musical chair over the ownership of the land on which the scam-tainted 31-storey Adarsh Housing Society is constructed continues in every court hearing, The Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Friday moved the Bombay High Court claiming ownership.

The ministry has sought possession of the land in Colaba on which the contentious building has been constructed, eight months after the state government-appointed quasi-judicial panel in its interim report submitted last April stated that it belonged to Maharashtra.

The interim report also refuted allegations making rounds that the plot was reserved for Kargil war widows and victims. On May 28, the ministry slapped notices to the state and Adarsh Housing Society to accept MoD’s ownership and had also demanded the handing over the possession within two months failing which it would file a civil suit in a competent court. The suit alleging that the residential complex was constructed in collusion and connivance on the part of society members, ministers and bureaucrats, will be heard in due course of time.
