Hundreds of students, both boys and girls, participated in a rally demanding strict action against the perpetrators of crimes against women in Kolar on Thursday.

The rally was jointly organised by Jagruti Seva Sansthe, Vimochana Women’s Rights Forum, Mukta Mahila Vedike and Rural Women’s Federation.

Slogans like ‘Stop atrocities against women,’ ‘Are women safe in this city,’ ‘Enough is enough,’ ‘Violence against women will not be tolerated,’ ‘Change society’s mindset’ and others were some of the slogans that echoed at Mekke Circle in the city from where the rally began.

Students were also holding many placards containing the slogans.
The protesters also raised their voice against the increasing sexual violence against women at workplace, schools and colleges, dowry deaths and crimes committed inside and outside the house.

Priority basis

The State and the Central governments should give grants to rape victims on a priority basis.

Tight security should be provided at public places like parks, bus stands and other places. Police stations should compulsorily register cases involving violence against women, they added.

Safety

Protesters demanded a safe society and secure environment for the women.
The heads of the organisations Shantamma, Advocate K Dhanaraj, Pushpalata, Narayanamma, C R Venkatamma and others led the rally.
