A 20-year-old man was arrested for throwing acid on a woman at Uttam Nagar in west Delhi, days after his victim, who suffered 20 per cent burns, regained conciousness in hospital and complained to the police.

The accused, identified as Israr, is a resident of Rama Park in Uttam Nagar. He was arrested from his house when the 25-year-old victim, three days after the incident, reported the matter to police on Friday evening, police said.

She told police that on January 8 morning, the accused forcibly entered her house at 8.30 am and tried to molest her. When she resisted, he allegedly took out a bottle of acid and threatened her.

When the woman raised an alarm, Israr threw the acid at her. Though she managed to dodge the liquid, it fell on her lower body after which she fell unconscious. The accused then fled from the spot.

People in the neighbourhood rushed her to Mahendru Hospital. The hospital authorities informed police, who rushed to the spot. But they could not take her statement as she was unconscious.  She was later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in south Delhi where she gave her statement to police.
