Sectarian clashes: Death toll reaches two

The toll in the sectarian clashes in the old city area here reached two with a person succumbing to injuries in hospital today, police said.

Ved Prakash Yadav, who suffered injuries in the sectarian clashes on late Wednesday night breathed his last today, IG Law and Order B P Singh said.

Yadav was present in the old city area when the clash broke out between two sects, the police official said.

Meanwhile, the Friday prayers passed off peacefully amid tight security arrangements in the old city areas.

Police sources said that of the six people arrested in this connection three have been taken on remand for questioning.

A total of eight cases have been filed in connection with the incident and hunt was on to arrest the accused including a former MP and a corporator, sources said.

Force deployment in the area would be increased and CCTV cameras were also being activated, they said.

On late Wednesday night, one person was killed and a dozen others were injured in sectarian clashes in old city area following tension between two sects of Muslim community during a religious ceremony in Wazirganj area leading to indiscriminate firing.
