Last Updated 04 February 2013, 17:58 IST

Hundreds of women staged a protest at Coromandel in the City, on Monday, against
police failure to provide security to a victim of sexual assault.

Recently, Srinivas (55), a Bharat Earth Movers Limited employee, sexually assaulted  a seven-year-old girl at New Model House Layout in Coromandel.

He was arrested after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint with the BEML Nagar police. After being let out on bail, he is alleged to have threatened the victim’s family.

When Selvi, the victim’s mother, approached the Urigam police to register complaint against Srinivas, they turned her back without lodging a complaint.

On seeing the injustice meted out to Selvi, residents of New Model House Layout, decided to stage a protest against police apathy. The protesters took out a rally from Bangarpet to KGF. They also tried to stage a road block.

DySP Rajanna who arrived at the spot prevented the protesters from staging a road block. The women who protested for an hour later submitted a memorandum to Superintendent of Police Rohini Katoch Sepat.
