The quaint feel at Cafe Mondo, located on 27th Main at HSR Layout, grows on anyone who visits the small eatery. It’s an old house house converted into a cafe — the perfect place to spend time digging into some great food.

Esha and Raghuveer, a young couple who started the eatery, say that they wanted to set up a place with a homely feel; hence, the unique style.

“We were looking for a place which was on the main road and yet, does not look very commercialised. This place fitted the bill. We have a wide array of choices as far as the menu is concerned. There are brownies, sandwiches, some Italian as well as Mexican dishes and our signature pizzas. The evenings are quite hectic for us, since we have many families dropping in to the eatery,” explains Esha.

The affordable rates makes this place a haven for students as well as young professionals. In terms of dessert, there is an interesting variety, like whiskey fudge cake, almond nut torte, rum truffle, orange truffle and hazelnut coffee truffle.
In fact, it’s the perfect haunt for people with a sweet tooth, especially chocolate-lovers who want to indulge themselves.

Other choices which are available here include date-and-walnut cake, red velvet cupcake, triple-layered chocolate mousse cake, egg-less walnut brownie and chocolate-chip cookies.

Interestingly, there are also options for customers who want to avoid too much sugar and fat, and prefer to keep it healthy.

They can opt for the wholewheat jaggery cookie. “Our desserts are free of preservatives. We don’t make them in bulk and prefer getting rid of the products that get spoiled, instead of adding preservatives to them. Only if someone orders in bulk do we make large quantities,” informs Raghuveer.

In terms of savoury items, there’s plenty of choice. The Moroccan gravy, served with rice, is a popular choice and many like it due to its tangy taste.

“Our forte is the pizzas, though. We make them fresh and the base is generally topped with pesto instead of tomato puree. We then add three different types of toppings to it and use olive oil and zucchini to keep it authentic,” he says.

Customers can either laze around in the courtyard of the eatery, in the midst of
greenery, or enjoy a meal on the breezy, open terrace.

Other dishes which are easy on the pocket are garlic bread with basic and pesto, cheesy fries, feta corn and spinach triangles and cilantro pesto — a meat-based dish marinated in the cilantro pesto and served along with mint mayonnaise.
